Website SEO – The Impact of Google Instant

Posted by admin On November - 2 - 2010

Website SEO

I know that I’ve already talked a lot about keywords but it really is at the start of the whole process and I can’t tell you how important it is.
You may have noticed now that Google has rolled out a new service for it’s Google search box – it’s called “Google Instant” and as you type in your search word it types in contextually relevant words. Now this is going to have a disturbing effect, not only on the searchers behaviour but also for the person who is paying for PPC advertising.
Firstly, the searcher for a particular term may choose to take advantage of a word or phrase that Google throws up for them – it may be relevant to their requirements but may be detrimental also to what you are trying to achieve with your SEO.
For instance, my website here is SEO’d to target one main keyword “website seo” – it appears in most metadata, titles and descriptions etc and I rank in the top 20 with 103,000,000 competing pages – pretty impressive for a site that’s less than a year old. However, if you type into Google’s search box the keyword “website seo” then instead of being able to display the relevant pages, you will now be offered relevant keywords that Google think you may be looking for, ie this is what displays..

website seo analysis
website seo checker
website seo tools
website seo tips
website seo services
website seo rating
website seo evaluation
website seo software
website seo audit

None of these keywords I attempt to rank for and should the searcher decide to opt for a synonym then my website would not be displayed.
Google is attempting to alter the behaviour of the searcher and offer them a more relevant search, which I commend, however, in the future it is going to require a different approach to SEO and the selection of keywords combined with trying to second guess what the searcher is actually looking for.
Personally, I think this is going to have a tremendous impact on the way websites are SEO’d for the future.
Keep checking back, because I’m going to be writing a lot more about this subject!!
