SEO Tip of the Day 02 May – Internal Page Linking

Posted by admin On May - 2 - 2010

Internal Page Linking

One of the ways that the SE¨s determine relevance and therefore ranking is to examine the internal link structure of a website. That is, the way that the pages link to each other across the Site. Since they can´t really understand the text of the Site they can understand the relevance if pages link to each other rather than 10 pages that appear to have no connection with each other.
Always try and use synonyms (remember Latent Semantic Indexing??) and other relevant keyword/phrases that support the general topic of the Site.
Try also to make it look a general and generic link that fits in with the page, the site and makes sense to the viewer as well. All link building on your site should be seen as “natural”, remember that the SE´s place great “import” on links, including internal links so plan out what you intend to do carefully befor you actually implement it.

Website SEO – Content and Topics

So you´re going to need some new content for your site – so why not create an article or even a review of one of your products and then submit that to a few of the top Article Directories.

It´s not difficult to do, remember that you´re not writing for the SE´s, as I´ve said many times – so make it interesting and zappy.

Pick your topic, then pick your keyword, put the kw into the title of the article, try and use it in the first or second sentence and in the last one or two sentences. Use it in context and so that it makes sense for the reader – focus on the topic and the reader and then if you use the few rules above it will be not only found by the SE´s but also rated as relevant.

There´s lots more that you can do to syndicate  your article – keep coming back for more tips!!

Javascript and CSS

I´ve mentioned before that the SE´s can´t read javascript so be careful  – I´ve often seen sites that are over 90% JS and whilst they may look trendy and current, the SE´s have difficulty in ranking them for relevancy. Always try and include some text on pages that are heavy with js.
Where you can, move the files off page, similarly with .css files, they can be quite large and there is rarely ever any need to have them on your page.
Anything that pushes the metadata, or anything that the SE´s are looking for, lower down the page should be avoided – why make it harder for the Search Engines??
Search Engine friendly is our motto and should be yours too!!

SEO Tip of the Day – 11 Apr

Search Engine spiders could enter your site on any page – they are not necessarily going to enter on the home page and, in fact, it is unlikely that they will do so.
As part of your SEO strategy you should make your site as “crawlable” as possible so the the “bots” can easily navigate throughout the total site using the links they find on each page.
Although most SE bots will look for the sitemap so they can crawl the site in it´s entirety you should ensure that you have a link on each page to your sitemap and not just on the homepage.
If you also have a logical page structure/linking hierarchy in the sites architecture then you´re not only making it easier for your visitors but for the SE´s too – it´s a win win situation!!

Look out for more of my tips this coming week!!
